Sunday Will Come

One of my most very favorite pictures.
Go here for one of my most very favorite talks.

So happy to be celebrating Easter with my little family.

Tomorrow the boys will receive baskets bursting with goodies.

I will make an Easter feast for us to come home to after church is through.

Tomorrow we will hunt for eggs, eat too much, and enjoy this Easter holiday together .

But as for tonight, before the Easter festivities begin,

I am sitting here thinking about that great event that happened so many years ago,

and the reason for our celebration tomorrow.

And I am overwhelmed with gratitude,

for I have the knowledge that I will see my dearest of loved ones again.

And that because of Jesus Christ's resurrection, we can be together forever, even after death.

I know the sting of death is very real, but I love the words of Paul,

“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?”

I know this is real and true, that the resurrection isn't just a nice story or a fable,

but in reality really happened.

I am grateful for Easter where we can remember this most wonderful of miracles,

and what it means for each of us.

Secondary Infertility

When I was on my mission while talking to my companion one day I had a feeling come to me, it was just a small thought. It came to my mind and said,

"You will struggle with infertility"

That small thought made such an impact on me that I wrote about
the prompting in my journal that night.
I wrote about how I was scared, how I didn't want that particular trial,
and how I really hoped it was wrong.

A few years later when Thatcher was born, and then Taggart 17 months later I laughed as thought of that feeling I had on that day back in Malta.
I must have surely imagined it or been paranoid, because I was obviously a very Fertile Myrtle!

Well.. we have been trying to add to our little family since early 2009.
A few months ago I was diagnosed with Secondary Infertility and PCOS.
This past Monday we found out that we were having our
second miscarriage at 7 weeks into the pregnancy.
The first was in February 2010, at 9 weeks pregnant, and that pregnancy was twins.
There have been many months of clomid, doctors appointments, crying at what seems like thousands of negative pregnancy tests, and obviously the heartbreak of miscarriage.

We have been struggling with this trial pretty privately only telling close family and friends.
I didn't really want to blog about it, or talk about it.
I felt that I should just keep it to myself.
Not to "air my dirty laundry".
Then the other day as I felt comforted in one of my lowest hours,
I felt the need to write about it, to blog about it, and to journal it.

Through it all...all the questioning, and the anger, the sadness and struggle I have grown closer to the Savior than I have ever been before.
Especially this past week as my worst fears were once again realized,
and after being extremely bitter for a few days,
I felt the healing power of the atonement and all the anger and bitterness melt away.
And even though I am still sad,
I feel peace.

I have also realized that I have so much to be grateful for...

I am grateful that when I received the news this past week that the pregnancy wasn't viable
that my husband and best friend flew home the next morning to be at my side,
to help me and buoy me up.
His very presence calmed me down
and he assured me that no matter what happens as long as we are together with our boys
we are more than just okay, we are extremely happy and blessed.

I am grateful for my mother who never gives up on me,
even when I am angry and bitter and I say stupid things.
I am grateful she sent me this article that helped me in the very instant that I needed help.
It was just what I needed to hear, even though at the time I wanted to
push away all good advice out of sadness.
I am grateful for my Mom's experience, and I know that she might be one of the only people who really knows how I feel at this exact moment.

I am grateful for good friends who have sent notes, and said prayers.
I have received many reassuring texts this past week, which have really brightened my days. One in particular came on a very hard night as an answer to a prayer.
This text came from a good friend which simply said,
"You can do hard things".
I am grateful for that reminder.

I am grateful for my brother who called me at just the right time and made
me laugh for the first time in days.
I am grateful for my family who have supported me, fasted for me,
prayed for me, and made me laugh like only they can.

I am so, so grateful for my boys, who I love more and more every single day.
I am so thankful I am their Mom.
I am so blessed to have them in my life.
They make me realize that it could be so much harder.
So many times I look at them and think,
"Thank heavens they are here! Thank heavens they came when they did!"
and I realize that even if we never have anymore,
I still have it pretty dang good.

I am grateful for women whose courage to face and endure their trials,
have given me courage to endure mine.
Women I have studied, like Hannah, Rachel, Sariah, and Rebekah.
Also, women like Tracie Morris, and Sister Jeanne Scott, Elder Scott's late wife,
who lost two of her children in the period of six weeks.
These women have had deeper pain and trials then I have had,
and their examples of strength inspire me.

But most importantly I am so grateful for the knowledge I have of a living Savior
who is real, and His healing power is very real in my life.
This past week I have read and re-read and listened to this talk from Elder Kent F. Richards from the last General Conference.
His thought really touched me...

"Sometimes in the depth of pain, we are tempted to ask, “Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there?” I testify the answer is yes, there is a physician. The Atonement of Jesus Christ covers all these conditions and purposes of mortality."

I too know that there is a balm in Gilead,
that the atonement does cover all pain and heartache.
He has rescued me, in every way.
He has pulled me up from the depths of deep trial, and healed my suffering.
For this I am grateful, and so, so thankful.

So it seems that little prompting was right that one day several years ago back in Malta.
I would be infertile at some point in my life.
From now on I am going to talk more about and document this journey that we are still on.
One day I have the feeling we will want to look back on all of this
stuff, junk, Hell,...
I mean blessed trials. :)

We are now going to be doing more aggressive fertility treatments.
So there will be many more doctors visits, more prayers, more craziness, more money spent on First Response Pregnancy tests, more trials, more learning and more blessings...
It will be quite the adventure I'm sure.

Six going on Sixteen...

Thatcher had a pretty fun birthday this year!

His birthday fell on a school day, so we took cupcakes into his class and he loved being the birthday boy that day, and loved being the center of attention while we celebrated with his class.

That next Saturday we had his birthday party.
He wanted an Lego Indiana Jones themed party this year.
It was fun putting the party all together and having several friends come over for the fun.

We sure love our sweet Thatch. He has grown into such a great helper and has always been such a smart little cookie. He really is six going on sixteen as he loves to inform me on how to do things, and I especially love it when he tells me how to drive! We are SO grateful to have Thatcher in our family and we just love him to bits!

Ms. Hodges and Thatcher as the Kindergarten class sang "Happy Birthday".
Goof Troop...
Best Bro's...
Present time...
Digging in.
Admiring the goods.
The cutiest bootiest Indiana Jones...
Indiana Jones hats for the party guests.
The Favor table.
Treat boxes for friends...

These are the CUTEST cookies that my friend Brooke made for me for the party.
She is SO talented!
The party set up...
The birthday sign...
Cupcakes
Cupcake Toppers...

The guests arrive.

First part of the treasure hunt,
The Mummy Wrap...

Second part of the treasure hunt,
Croc Lake.
They had to walk on the beam and pick up a "grenade" and throw it at the crocs!

Third part, Gas Relay.
They had to empty the bad guys "gas tanks" and fill the buckets up with "gas".

Fourth part, gross palace banquet.
The kids had to reach into the covered bowls and feel the Monkey Brains aka Cold Spaghetti, Eyeball Soup aka Peeled Grapes in Water, and Snake Guts aka Red Jello.
They were so grossed out!

Finally they found the Treasure and we dumped it all over the grass for them to gather it up!
Cupcake and Ice Cream time!

Love that in March we could do so much outside in our backyard!

Privacy....again.

I really hate to do this but certain events that have happened lately have made me realize that I just need a little more privacy in our lives.

If you would like to continue reading our blog please let me know by emailing me at

rachael.n.bishop@gmail.com.

Thanks! :)

***UPDATE***

So, I have decided not to go private after some thought and listening to Conference this weekend.
Sorry for the false alarm, but thanks to everyone who contacted me and who wanted to keep reading! I really appreciate the support! :)

What we've been up to....

This is what Todd has been up to...
...he has been on a very grueling three week case and has been working 18-20 hour days. Needless to say, we haven't been seeing too much of him.
And when we do he always has his computer in front of him.
Thank goodness it ends tomorrow and like he said tonight, "time to par-tay".
I hope par-tay to him means Mommy alone time at the spa.
I have been keeping busy with the boys, the daily routine, and my calling.
I feel so lucky to be able to work with some incredible Young Women.
Being around them just makes me so happy.

I went into the YW's hoping to convince all my Laurels to not get
married at 18 and go on missions...

5 months later we were doing this...

We actually had a great night talking about Temple Marriage and all that
they have to look forward to.
I just love these girls to pieces (missing 7 of them in the pictures, I need to do better about taking pictures at mutual).
Thatcher had a Open House at his school and Tagg and I tagged along...
He loved showing us around his classroom,
here is his favorite center...
art. Of course.
All the kids made paper plate faces of themselves.
Thatcher had been telling me for days before hand that his had "green disco ball eyes"...
He was so proud of it.
I loved it.
Spring break was this past week and the boys spent most of their days doing this....
...which made me very happy to see them outside in the sun shine.
They also played outside almost every day until it was dark.
It is so lovely to have a backyard again.
We had such a fun week just hanging around together with nothing really to do.
They boys played so well together all week, I think they were really just enjoying being together with no school or routine.
I love breaks like that.
The other night at dinner the boys were being so silly,
I had to document it...

These boys bring so much joy into my life...
And that is what has been happening around these here parts...
